My 2n does that sometimes. If I have the ASA cranked up and point it at
something bright, it will stick in the red beyond 1/1000th. A gentle tap on
the prism has always brought it back down.

In the debate over longevity, I personally think a mechanical meter is
going to have a shorter life than an LCD. Also going for it is that the LCD
has relatively few elements -- it isn't a dot-matrix or even a 7-segment
numeric, which have addressing and decoding circuits associated with them.
Because the elements are sizeable, I'd guess they are less prone to
problems than (for example) tiny elements on dot-matrix computer LCD
screens.

I have digital voltmeters that are close to 20 years old, and their LCD
displays are still solid.
