This is a personal preference thing and I imagine you're going to get
varying opinions. I don't use a filter unless I need the effect the filter
provides. About the only time I use a "protective" filter, i.e. a UV or
Skylight, is when my front lens element will be directly exposed to nasty
elements such as blowing dirt or sand. My reasoning for this is that any
extra glass elements introduced in the optical path will degrade the image
to some degree. In other words, if Olympus had wanted a Skylight filter
stuck on the end of my Zuiko, they would have included one in the design.
Please note that this is my personal opinion and your mileage may vary.
