Hello all stringpoddists,

this is an old idea of the 'thirties: a light chain attached to the tripod
bushing of your newfangled Leica II. You trod on the chain and
tensioned the chain. The Germans called it a 'Kettenstativ', i.e. a
chain tripod.

A niftier alternative is a sniper-style sling support. I learned this
in the army. Hang the camera around your neck (you will have to
adjust the len¢gth of the sling/strap by some experimenting). Hold
the camera as usual with your right hand. Bring your left hand up
inside the strap, then outside above it and grip the camera normally,
under the lens barrel. The strap is now around the outside of your
elbow, and if the length is right, the strap is tensioned and helps you
to stabilize the camera. With a rifle, you have the right hand around
the pistol grip and on the trigger, the left under the forestock of course.
This is nearly as good as a monopod. And you will never forget that
it is there!

Vänliga hälsningar/Best regards
Lars Bergquist
