MikeG, and perhaps someone else(?) commented on contrast with this lens As one should expect of old, single coated lenses, it's highly dependent on light. The first Frog & Pot pix I posted with it were bright overcast, and modest contrast. With the second sample, bright sun late afternoon shots looking west have very low contrast. Then, mid-day sun and great contrast. <http://www.moosemystic.net/Gallery/tech/Lenses/Misc/Culminar135Contrast.htm>

OK, so some eBayer send me a special price reduction on a regular Culminar
135/4.5, and I bit . . .

This thing is about 70 years old, and looks like it just came out of the box! Looks as though my speculations about the first one are wrong. Looks like it's really a short mount version, from the git-go. Everything behind the front section with the glass in it has been compressed. <http://galleries.moosemystic.net/MooseFoto/index.php?gallery=Tech/Steinheil%20Munchen%20Culminar%20135%20f4.5&image=IMG_0277.jpg>

Even the DoF scale has been modified, so the wide apertures won't be cut off.
