Looks a nice place. :-)

The mushroom pictures are in-camera stacks with the 12-40 or 30 macro,
which are the lenses from that list I have.

I didn't realize until after sending my reply that you were showing you own
'shroom pix! Quite a nice group.

I understand its limitations and not every stack turned out OK,

Mushrooms are a close to ideal subject, as they are nicely 3D, so benefit from the technique, and they don't move about in breezes.

This one shows 'waves' of focus in the background that could be avoided with bracketed shots by only including one background slice in the stack. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/63142137@N08/37045681713/in/album-72157689466783056/>

This one shows the same thing in the highly variable focus of the trees in the background. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/63142137@N08/23862690188/in/album-72157689466783056/>

The multiple images of waving grass in this one could be avoided/fixed in PS without too much trouble. <https://www.flickr.com/photos/63142137@N08/37006278734/in/album-72157689466783056/>

And so on . . .

but still I think it is a great feature to have.

Of course. If I didn't have to buy E-M1 bodies to get it, it would be even more useful. :-) Unfortunately, the E-M1 II switches from MySets that can be assigned to Fn buttons to Custom settings that can't, thus making Focus Bracketing less convenient. :-( I do have it on the TG-4, only in Microscope mode, so I have compared the two approaches - and ended up preferring Bracketing.

I'll experiment with bracketing only and an external program. I'd like that
to be freeware though..., any recommendation ;-).

PS is, in effect, free for my focus stacking, as I have it anyway. :-)

There is this recent review of free focus stacking software, but I can't vouch for any of it. <http://listoffreeware.com/best-free-focus-stacking-software-windows/>

Some does look interesting . . .

I tried the stacking in the new-ish Affinity converter/editor, and found it
second rate.
