[OM] equipment malfunction ?

Dating back to 2006 and 2007 I have numerous RAW and TIFF images generated 
with my pre E5 Oly E series cameras all of which have one common feature. At 
almost the dead centre position on each image is a brilliant red spot 
measuring four pixels square with a faint one or two pixel wide red line 
trailing to the bottom of the image. The red spot I can patch over with PS 
and the faint line I ignore since it is barely visible even at 3200% 
magnification.

Is this red spot and the trailing faint line more likely to have been caused 
by a faulty camera sensor or a faulty compact flash card ?
