I guess installing a SSD will bring the best improvement in LR handling.

I have an Intel SSD as my system disk (c:) from which I run both windows
and LR. It is in a ASUS N72 laptop with i7 processor (second generation, I
think, 26xx Y) and 6GB RAM. My pictures are generally on a conventional
hard disk until processed, then they go to a NAS.

Just did some comparisons on going from one enlarged picture to another (6D
files, around 30Mp).

Pictures on the SSD: ~15 seconds
Pictures on the Hard Disk: ~20 seconds
Pictures on the NAS: ~30-35 seconds.

Can't tell what the speed difference is when LR runs from a conventional
hard disk, but I was surprised at relatively low gains from putting the
pictures on the SSD as well.

Any thoughts? Just installing a SSD would be a relatively cheap upgrade for
a system, a 128 GB would be enough for both the OS and some current
pictures (moving them away after processing). Not very difficult either,
plenty how to manuals around.

Best, Frank
