Once in a great while I need to use layers. For that, I will either
use Photoshop Elements or GIMP. However, I think it's been at least
two years since I've used either. PWP allows a person to kinda do
layers, but it follows the darkroom metaphor instead of the graphics
layout metaphor. In the end, you can accomplish the same tasks, but
the ways of getting there are different. The advantable of PWP's
methodology is the memory management as well as the ability to mix and
match "layers" to different purposes. PWP allows you to work on
multiple versions of the same image.
The problem is that as we become old geezers, we get set in our ways.
The number of people who are totally stuck on Photoshop because of old
age is mind-boggling. It's these same people who think they are being
all modern and everything, but they're still using software that dates
back to the Reagan Administration.
