A camera in NEX style with a FF sensor seems to me a logical step for Sony
if they want to compete with (the FF DSLRs from) Canon and Nikon.

I doubt that a FF sensor can't be delivered in an APS size DSLR in the near
future (maybe it is already out there: D600?). It is inevitable that FF
DSLRs bodies will come down in size and weight, but will remain bigger and
bulkier then mirrorless FF systems. Digital camera's are all about chips, a
faster processor (needed for more pixels) is not necessarily bigger then a
slower one. OK, you'll need more memory, but in 18 month you'll need only
half the space ;-). That is why Nikon J1/V1 camera's are not really smaller
then m43 cams, who are not really smaller then NEX camera's (actually most
are bigger).

Predictions are that APS DSLRs will disappear, as they have the
disadvantages of FF camera's (large package, few dedicated lenses so many
FF lenses), and non of the advantages of mirrorless (compact package,
dedicated lenses). So if Sony wants more then just competing with NEX...
They have a phase detect adapter ready for the older Minolta en Alpha full
frame lenses, and could just easily start with relatively compact primes.
All Leica owners will get one as a backup body, not too bad as a market
entrance benefit. The NEX mount appears to be big enough for a FF sensor,
so no problems: if a NEX APS lens is mounted, just use the central part.
With E-M5 sensor technology nothing to be ashamed of.

Start buying legacy glass from Minolta, Canon FD, Konica (to name a few you
can't mount on your Canon FF DSLR), it might start gain some value back...

Best, Frank.
