Nah, I just started shooting and changed things until the fourth one worked.
The moon looks pretty well exposed at
1/100, f8, ISO 400, but it's a tiny thing at 17 mm and the ring is invisible.
The moon itself is quite overexposed in
the final shot. The big, bright 'thing' is not the moon, but the light around
it.
