Thanks.  Your summary makes it much clearer.  What's interesting is that 
the matrix metering keys off the focus point rather than the center of 
the image.  Is this a new discovery for you as well?

Now that I have a clearer understanding of what you were saying I think 
I'll go back and re-read the original to see if there's anything I missed.
