I certainly wouldn't have made the connection. The similarly marked
birds from the same family around here are called chickadee (from their
calls, as noted in Wikipedia).
To this western USian, the "Great Tits" reference would only have
applied to the putative contents of the undergarment when worn, not the
birds.
