Really high tech reasoning on my part    ... ... 

I wrote some of the  text from your jpeg into a Google search for a giggle, 
and it did founded the exact samely page ...  :-)

Hence I was able to see that Opera 9.63 on Win XP DID render that LHS 
menu just  fine with no overlapping text.    None eversowhatly.

Install Opera  and find out for yourself. :-)  I'm in one of 'those' moods
tonight; it's past the bewitching hour.
