Wiliam,
There is a photo I have seen of Maitani shooting an OM in vertical
orientation, very much with the technique you describe that you use
yourself. IIRC!
I have only used that method in circumstances where I have needed to
do so because I was using a tripod, shooting upwards, weird angle --
that sort of thing. Whatever it takes to get the shot, right?
