I think you should go to the nearest Apple store and do some testing/
fondling of your own. All I can say is that I bought my first Apple, a
12" Powerbook G4, in the spring of 2006, after 20+ years of using only
DOS/Windows computers, and I will never look back. I still use that
Powerbook when I travel, and my desktop is a 20" iMac with 4 GB RAM,
bought for around 1300 Euro earlier this year (taking advantage of an
educational discount). The thing about Macs is that they just work
better than Windows machines with nominally equivalent horsepower. I
have just edited some scanned MF images in Photoshop CS3 on the iMac.
I opened all 16 images (a roll of 6x4.5) in PS, each of them between
200 and 250 MB in size--and still the levels and other adjustments I
made went much faster than I ever remember experiencing on my PC.
