I may be wrong but I find it difficult to believe that any amount of dust or 
paint flecks that a lens may accumulate internally can have any visible effect 
at all on an actual photograph.  I don't see how they can cause "flare" in any 
way and the total surface area of the "dust" relative to the total surface area 
of the glass has to be minuscule.  It would be interesting to perform a test of 
 a common target between two identical lenses... on with "dust" and the other 
supposedly clean.
