I have read somewhere that the useful life of a CRT ranges from about
3-6 years. The small CRT on my wife's computer is probably about 5-6
years old and I can't calibrate it any more. It's due for the scrap
heap soon anyhow since it has also developed a heat related problem of
showing a very strong green cast. The Samsung CRT on my own computer
produces good color when calibrated but has a problem with inconsistent
horizontal size across the screen. If you bring up a card game like the
Windows "Freecell" you can see that the horizontal size of the cards
varies as much as 10% depending on the screen position.

Both need to be replaced. Probably a small flat screen for my wife who
doesn't care what her screen looks like as long as it's not visibly
green all over. I'm seriously considering another CRT after recently
discovering that the NEC 21" is still being made.
