I think it was me who first mentioned using bits cut from Swiffer
dusters to clean film before scanning. Works great. But it was AG who
had the guts to take one to his E1. I haven't been that brave with the
5D. I had some email communication with Swiffer about producing a
digtal camera cleaning version. The sales folks thought that was
interesting and said they'd pass it on to product development but I
think it died there. No one was about to tell me that whatever a
Swiffer is coated with (and it is coated with something) would not hurt
my 5D's sensor filter. I thought about doing it but grew more reluctant
with the news from Photographic Solutions that Eclipse (methanol) was
thought to be damaging tin oxide coated sensor filters. Turns out the
5D doesn't use tin oxide on its filter but it simply showed that all
chemicals ain't necessarily compatible.

For anyone else who might want to try this be aware that when you cut
off a piece of Swiffer duster you leave lots of tiny cut threads behind.
These would be gigantic dust spots on a sensor and aren't so hot on
film either. After cutting the duster into pieces I pass each piece in
front of the vacuum cleaner hose to suck off those linty bits left behind.
