Yeah, it shouldn't matter, its silly really. But it does affect your
career if you intend to be a fulltime professional artist.

 Bill,

The reason I said there are rules is that I have found, as have others I
have known, that if you don't do it that way then curators, dealers, gallery
directors, etc. simply won't take you seriously as a professional artist.

I guess I am of the impression that there is no consistency among art dealers,
curators, gallery directors. Certainly if submitting portfolio to any of these
types for their review I would do everything I could to present it in a way
that suited their taste/requirements/rules etc. Most of us aren't in this full
time and should that time come most would accommodate or perish. Until then
I'll continue to do it the way you do (which I happen to think is the best way)
and submit my work to competitions, exhibits, etc. Some of the stuff required
seems pretty silly and I guess most of these folks have been at it long enough
to know what works even if some of it seems silly. Probably the biggest
challenge most of us face is being in pricing our work at a level which will
allow us to make a reasonable amount from the sale thru a gallery. Most of
that problem probably resides about eight inches above our shoulders. <{8^)
