Rexism is more of fascist inspiration (Mussolini, Franco) than of Nazi
one (Hitler)... Rexist party is a division of the old catholic party
(mainly french speaking side, with a Unitarian Belgian view)... there
was also a various Flemish versions (with a nationalist independantist
feel) of the Mussolinian influence (from the modernist to the
traditionalist).
Flemish had also there true nazi party (race, language, and
pangermanism).
Antisemitism was "natural" in the catholic world in Belgium, as was
support to Franco or Mussolini... but persecution changed the approach.
The old rebellious feeling of the Belgian people gave birth to (some)
acts of bravery...
But what is less known is the collaboration of some the Belgian
socialists to the new regime (the conversion of Henri DE MAN, former
head of the socialist party) in a state + order + planification +
socialism paradigm who had moved from social-democracy to
social-nationalism. Another interesting fact is that the politicians
(from center right to left) took the time of the war to discuss, prepare
and invent the social security system that was the main progress and the
real base of the Belgian rebirth after the war...

And don't speak about the king (little k please), Leopold III... who
admired Mussolini, Franco and had family links with the Italian King
(bad)... and was a really great photographer (fine)...
There is a book of those pictures (he used Linhof technika and was a
Leica fan... until his death he always bought everything from leica as
soon or even before it was available on the market).

Vichy allowed those nuts to sneak in the back door. But it really gelled
into genuine French fascism. Took a looooong time for us to come to
terms with it officially, one of the good things Chirac did between
scams. There was the Degrelle phenomenon in Belgium, BTW: two wrongs do
make a Rexist. - Phil
