I wonder at what number we reach point of diminishing return with
sensor density?

Will 20 and 30MP sensors be two and three times "better" than 10MP?
And I wonder if I'll notice it in my use of them?

Are there appropriate analogies, e.g., cars that can make 240 MPH vs.
120 MPH? Does the 240 MPH necessarily perform better at 60 MPH? Or
is it only when the 120 MPH gets near its limit that differences are
obvious?

It seems to me that Leica is taking an approach that makes sense;
start with a sensor of known quality and tweak it for the best overall
balance of ultimate image quality. Yes, they all say they do that,
but, to quote T.S. Eliot, "Between the idea and the reality falls the
shadow." And the shadow is often noisy. ;o)
