There is (was) a secondary switch (ZC1383, page 6 of parts blow-up,
right next to sync socket), in the OM-2 which turned the main circuit
"on" as the mirror went up. So, if you were to lock-up the mirror
mechanically and forgot about it, you'd burn the batteries out. Once
again protecting us from ourselves, even though many of us would WANT
mirror lock in the 2/2N. Later, part of Olympus factory service for the
2 was to remove this secondary switch.
You could add mirror lockup to a 2/2N but it takes drilling, tapping,
parts, lots of labor.
