Who among us hasn't? I'm by no means a high-speed focuser.
Especially with teles. I'm pretty good with lenses from
24-100mm, but beyond that it gets a bit hairy for me. With
these guys, I had already focused in on something and then
bumped the focus forward a bit to get the flying guys.
Suprisingly enough, of the entire sequence, there were very few
OOF shots. Plenty of other errors, but not many focus problems.
Oh, and I definitely didn't have the 20D's infamous "backfocus"
problem.

I had the opportunity to buy one from Tom. He even loaned one to
me for a while. I absolutely love the lens because it's sized
right and the bokeh is just beyond perfect. There is a 3D
characteristic to the pictures which is uncanny. My only beef
with the lens is the tight focusing. The Helicoid is really too
stiff for finger-tip focusing and in cold conditions the ability
to focus is non-existant.

On the E-1, the 300/4.5 has a similar FOV as a 600mm on an OM. I
used a borrowed 600/6.5 (more chrome than a 62 Cadillac), and
found it to be extremely difficult to work with and it was hard
to get vibration free shots. With the 300/4.5 on the E-1,
vibration problems are a thing of the past. I never had a
single picture ruined by shutter vibration.

There were a few other pictures taken with Joel's 300/4.5 which
are already among my favorites. Sharpness with the E-1 is
simply not an issue.

Oh, and I've been informed of some placement problems with the
website. I'll be correcting all this as soon as I can.
