And I'm sure I won't always want the histogram display on. Probably only
in situations where I'm not sure about the lighting and/or myself :)

That's true. Even though the E-1 will display the last shot,
it's more entertainment than anything. To see the histogram, you
do have to press the play button with your right thumb and then
the info button. Doesn't bother me in the least since my M*nolta
is configured pretty similarily.
Once it was explained to me how the Info button worked, it took
all of two minutes for me to get used to it.
