Thanks Winsor.

There's no question I could use the camera in a much more skilled
manner. I just can't find any consistency that enables me to understand
exactly what I'm doing wrong or what's it's going to do in a given
situation.

If you have time, look up through the thread to my previous descriptions
of this two shots -

http://home.illicom.net/users/jsharp/personalphotos/DSC_0367%208X6.jpg

Camera set identically in both, matrix metering, ap mode, +0.3 ev comp,
etc. The only thing the camera had to do was select the correct shutter
speed and auto focus.

I honestly have no clue what drove the camera to expose these scenes so
differently. This may well be the way Nikon pro cameras work, but if
that's the case my appreciation for photographers that attempt use them
for real work all day just went up about 100X.

Your other point is well taken. Moving digital means I'm in effect doing
my own processing and printing now, and have taken on all the things
that go with it.

I've an open case with Nikon right now on this, and another with the
problems I've had with Nikon Capture/Nikon View. I just wanted some more
information about competing brands and others experiences before I sell
it, or send it in for repair. After talking to their support department
for many hours lately, I'm convinced if I send it in, after 2 months
I'll get it back with a "No Problem Found" report and a bill for $200...

Thanks again!
