If I had a scope as expensive as a Takahashi I think I'd spring for the
factory specified mounting. But, if you'd like to save some money, here
is the URL for a pair of 76mm ID tube rings for $15 from Orion. You
would have to shim these down to 68mm using felt or cork, etc. Then
mount to a metal or wooden plate tapped for the tripod screw. If you
use a wooden plate you can fit it with a "T-nut" so there are metal
threads in the plate.

You could also make a substitute for the mounting rings. Simplest might
be a pair of wooden V-blocks with felt or cork facings and some sort of
adjustable strap to hold the tube tight.

Whatever you use should be readily loosened so you can slide the tube
back and forth for balance.

Good luck,
