Thanks, Zuiks, for all the suggestions on retrieving the
disappearing leader. I am saving them all to my reference file in
case I do it again. But on this occasion, I'm taking the wimpy
way out. I'm going back to the camera shop that has the $19.95
leader retriever for sale to pick up some slides I left for
processing. They send out the E-6 stuff, so it takes a few days,
but since they do C-41 in-house, I'm sure they have the proper
device and the requisite expertise to wield it so as to fetch this
thing back out. (I should have let them do my NPH. Live and
learn.) Anyway, I?m confident they will happily retrieve the
leader for me while I'm looking again at and ooing and aahing over
the Sinar and digging the 35/2.8 Olympus lens hood out of the
bargain bin for one of you.

I feel it appropriate penance for my misdeed to confess in more
detail my incompetence in this matter. I had just loaded the
camera, an OM-4T, with the Provia 400 and had not shot a single
frame when I decided to use a different type film. Attached to
the camera was a Motor Drive 2. I rewound the film using the
motor drive, following which all I needed to do was flip open the
back and remove the film. But no-o-o-o-o! For some reason, I
felt compelled to manually wind it back just a little bit more.
And that's how I screwed up.

The moral, if there is one: Trust the gear.

Walt
