DPReview.com points out that the magazine Chasseur D'Image has published an E-1 photo sample with a direct comparison to the E-20. The images are of a Samurai doll and you can find them here in the middle of the page.

I downloaded and compared them and say that even though both are 5MP sensors the E-1 appears to have slightly more resolution than the E-20. It also has dramatically less noise than the E-20. This noise difference can be clearly seen by placing the images side-by-side and magnifying the cheek area of the doll. The E-1 appears to show more detail in the fabric of the dolls garment. Perhaps this is simply the absence of noise and not better resoluiton.
