Nothing wrong with it from the oil companies point of view :-)  The
justification they give is that you're purchasing a unit of energy when you
purchase gasoline, not a volume.  They never do explain why the pumps always
price it per litre and not per kilo-joule though.

Not in Canada, the pumps here take into consideration temperature and adjust
what they pump relative to +15C.

Not with our pumps.  You pay for 1000ml and may only be getting 900ml out
of the pump.  There is no way of knowing exactly how much volume the pump
really gave you without actually measuring it.
