A high-school friend of mine, who became a renowned physicist when he
grew up, was grounded for a year [no pun intended] when he tried out his
just-built Van de Graaf generator on the family cat. The poor thing was
never seen again, at least by his family, though I'm sure a cat with fur
standing orthogonally from its body at every point must have garnered a
fair amount of attention during its lifetime.
