Speaking of F18's. They frequently do runs through the passes in the
Cascades. The arrival announced by a boom when they come around the
mountain. Often they are below you in the bottom of the valley. I
especially remember a day late one summer when my father,
brother-in-law, and friends and I climbed Glacier Peak. It was one of
those rare summer days when it was actually shirt sleeve weather on the
summit which is 3000m+/10k+ft. We were enjoying a leisurely lunch in the
sun when a pair of F18's showed up and buzzed around us close enough to
easily see the pilots. They then proceeded to put on a short
demonstration of acrobatic maneuvers, i.e. they showed off. We had the
best seats in the house.
