I don't believe there is one "best" for OM bodies. Among the most popular is the Bogen 3021 which has been redesigned since I bought mine. It now has a center post that can be turned horizontal. Head for it? Take your pick. I cannot say much about ball heads as I've never used one. I have a 3410 (329), the QR plate for which which has also been redesigned. Other good 3-way heads are the 3047 and 3039. There are times when I've wished for a gear head and may eventually buy the 405 or 410.

All this is a little heavier than the "department store" variety, but well worth the build quality, sturdiness, robustness and rigidity.
