Uh, uh. People who listen exclusively to reproduced music don't know
what music sounds like in a concert hall. They are often disappointed
that the live orchestra cannot "turn up the bass" and "lift the highs"
as they so  easily do on their preamplifiers. I don't care how good the
reproduction system is, the principle holds. It is painful truth, to be
sure, and I've been struggling with it as a member of the AES for the
last fifty years.


Okay, yet one more variable: listener ignorance. Point is, our reference is always live music and if that sounds unauthentic then that's on our listener not the live musical event.

Besides, I doubt most people have ever heard top-end audio, would or could appreciate it if they did.
