Right now I am very interested in the creative process, for myself and
for ways to help others find theirs. I want to learn how to break
barriers to my seeing. I've been practicing something taught to me that
seems to help a lot. For me to get the creative juices going, I have
to confront some deep seated anxiety. It seems, if I don't feel this
anxiety, I'm caught in the fog of memory.

Photography takes me away from my anxieties. Are you primarily by chance an urban photographer (street, architecture, etc.)?

 The technique I was taught
involves working with consciousness without memory (or should I say,
consciousness without history). I think anything original has to break
the barrier of our history, and that is often accompanied with anxiety,
but at the same time there is excitement and life force. And what
sometimes results surprises even me.

Photography really adds to my enjoyment of the environment. Like most of us, I suppose, I don't just look at things but compose them. Seeing as composing.

This happens more intensely when I am out of familiar territory. I don't always get better photos when I go back to a once-unfamiliar place to shoot.

One another note, my friend made a very interesting point. He said I
need to really edit down my photos. That that is the only way to see
where to take the next step, to see where I am going. I would be very
interested in hearing about other peoples observations on their
creative process.

These are my ten rules for advancing the creative process (in no special order):
1. Compose
2. Compose
3. Compose
4. Compose
5. Compose
6. Compose
7. Compose
8. Master the technical stuff
9. Get up early
10. Compose
