[OM] need help: odd sound from MD2

Subject: [OM] need help: odd sound from MD2

I received a new-to-me MD2 and NiCd Control Pack the other day. The Control
Pack was advertised as needing a new NiCd cluster.
I tested the MD2 with another Control Pack, and it worked perfectly. I
charged the recently received Control Pack that 'needs' a new NiCd cluster.
After charging and attaching to the MD2, it made a slight buzzing sound and
didn't trip the shutter when I depressed the shutter release button. It
sounds like the motor is meeting some sort of resistance...but it isn't
since it tested properly with other Control Packs. I attached the Control
Pack to another MD2, and it made the same buzzing sound without firing. I
tried the Control Pack on an MD1 and nothing happened, no sounds.
So here is my dilemma:
Whenever I have encountered a NiCd cluster that needs to be replaced it
either did not work at all or would trip the shutter but not advance the
film. This sound is new to me, and I'm wondering if anyone has encountered
a similar sound. I'm thinking the Control Pack may have a problem with the
circuit board or something else (something more serious than the NiCd
cluster). Anybody have any thoughts or suggestions?

Also, I have a Control Pack that burned out two of MD1s (grrr). It melted
the black plastic plate with the contacts sticking out of it and roasted the
circuit boards in the motor drives. Has anybody experienced a similar
situation and have a solution?

as always....
thanks for everyone's help!
