I have one of the "made in Japan" lenses.  Got it off of Ebay.  It was brand
new in box (vacuum sealed).  The box said Carson on it (thought they were
long gone).  Great lens.  i also have the 1.4 (serial number 1,132,xxx), so
I am luck.  It is an amazing lens too.

Yes.  The "Made in Japan" explicitly says "Made in Japan."  ;-)  I don't
know about the lens grouping/formulation differences between the two, and
until I found one on eBay, I'd never seen an example of the "Made in Japan"
lens, either.
