Yes somebody with a p&s using like a real SLR is more impressive, especially 
when 
you see his results. This thread reminds me to a statement from a long time 
photographer:

He told that some day he and other of his long time photo friends compared 
their new
pictures to their early work. They were estonished because they found that 
their older work was 
better than their new pictures, despite those day`s they only owned one camera 
with only
one standart lens. But then they recalled that the took much more care about 
how to
do a picture, trying different views, different perspectives, different way`s 
to see, ....

This makes the difference. I always try to remember this as often as possible 
before going
to photograph.
