Garth- I think you're right. Even the best of prices in this area seem
steeper than what you have available. Especially if you were quoting CDN
prices.

My local phone company (Verizon) reports that the aging copper lines in my
neighborhood will not support DSL and therefore will not even attempt to
install. They offer DSL piggybacked on your voice line (or vice-versa?) for
an additional $39/mo. I tried to get that, they refuse. I tried getting a
separate line installed through Flashcom and Covad, but Verizon stymied that
attempt as well.

I checked into the cable route. My local cable company (Prestige/Arcadia)
does not offer internet service without the premium package. Other cable
companies (Comcast) outside of my (rural) service area and notably closer to
Baltimore City offer the cable internet service for $30 to subscribers, and
only $10 more for non-subscribers. I would leap on that service. But I won't
move to get it.

So here I sit, bitching about my 56K dial up. Plenty good for the Zuiko OM
list mail. But increasingly unsatisfactory for the growing bandwidth
requirements of modern web pages. Yes, looking at the dazzling TOPE photos
we've taken with our beloved OM equipment requires bandwidth an/or time.
Downloading those great manuals and brochures eat up precious time and
space. Enjoying the creative flow from our many list members is bandwidth
intensive, and I feel left out. Poor me :-(

Thankfully, the list is primarily text based, and requires little waiting to
enjoy. Almost as instant as opening a cold adult beverage. . . There, I'm
feeling better.

Happy Holidays,
Mickey
