Re: [OM] OM 1 light meter

When I used to wear contacts the eyecup was a great way to increase contrast and viewability in my OM 1 finder for difficult shots, for instance in a dark subject with side lighting. With glasses the eyecup doesn't help and actually hinders as it puts my eye further away from the viewfinder.

I got into an argument with a fellow about this very thing one day. I
told him to step outside - not for a scuffle, but to demonstrate!

Holding his OM-1 to his eye (in bright sunlight), I had him set the
meter for a "correct" exposure. Then, without moving or changing
anything, I simply held my hand over the top and side of the camera,
shading the eyepiece. Shocked, he told me that the meter dropped over
two stops!

Of course, how much the meter changes depends on so many factors
(glasses/no glasses, how bright the day, angle of the sun, angle of the
camera, etc.), it would be impossible to predice. Suffice it to say,
get an eyecup or wear a wide-brimmed hat ;^)
