So it's a little hard for me to believe that an OM-4 just fell to
pieces after a mere drop on a concrete floor. I'd demand pictures.

I too have difficulty believing it. I dropped my OM4 onto stone
cobbles in Trier in 1997. The only damage was a *slight* distortion
of the end of the base plate.
And the battery consumption is still about one set/12 months ... ;-)
