Chris,

The problem is not with the National Park Service (not a "quango" but a
species within the U.S. Department of the Interior), which is one of the
elements of government of which I think all Americans might be occasionally
proud in a non-partisan fashion (but I am often silly).  The problem with
Yosemite is that it is in California.

There was an earthquake in the Mojave a couple weeks ago, after which I had
a dream that unfolded quite contrary to the projected scenario of
California slipping in the sea after "The Big One." In my dream the rest of
the continental U.S. became submerged under ocean instead. The rest of us
were left to swimming between the islands that remained among the topmost
points of the Rockies until we could make landfall at Needles and Blythe,
thus accomplishing the Manifest Destiny whereby all living Americans would
eventually move to California.
