I don't know about this lens, but I was able to fix some looseness 
in the focus ring on my 35/2.8 and 135/3.5 by tightening three 
small screws hidden under the grip rubber.
In each case, the screws were *very* loose (up to 1.5 turns), so it 
may be worth a look on your zoom, in case there is a similar 
adjustment. (Just don't over tighten).
