Given the latitude of negative film (about three stops over and one
under) its only purpose is to make lfe easy for the printer, also give
you nice repeatable results. In slide film you only have a one stop
latitude and accurate exposure is critical.

Remember that you are reading reflected light and with a spot meter it
is your responsibility to find an 18% reflectance subject. The OM4
biasing is nice because you can find a white or black part and
register it as a hilite or shadow and get very close - just like the
Zones on a weston meter!.
