Of course it depends on the application, the format and the
desired effect, but generally I adhere to my "menu":

                            Neg            Trans            B&W
Stills/Portraits/Product    Kodak V-III    Kodachrome 64    Kodak Tri-X
Landscapes/Distance         Kodak Pro100   Kodak E-200      Kodak Plus-X
Motion/Action               Kodak Pro400   Kodak E-200      Kodak Tri-X
Macro/Micro/Detail          Kodak Pro100   Kodachrome 64    Kodak Plus-X

Soon I plan to begin testing the Kodak PJ films (PJ100, PJ400, PJ800)
to compare their respective "attitudes" towards color and sharpness.
I probably won't send the film to Walgreens for processing...
