Greetings from the wilds of the arctic. Summer is but a memory, and
we're getting settled in for another 18 month marathon of unending
winter. People wonder why we travel to the tropics...

I'll be doing another trip to the down-under in January. I'll do it
every year as long as my daughter is living there. The nice thing is
that while it's -25F here, it's +25C there. It's a nice way to make
living up here liveable.

Anyway, this trip I'll be going north up to Brisbane and beyond. My
daughter is suggesting we go to the Whitsundays, so that's on the
shortlist. As usual, I'll be flying to/from Sydney to/from Honolulu,
and going to Melbourne for a few days. (On the way back from Australia
I may spend a week or two in Hawaii).

I'm THINKING of travelling a lot lighter this year and instead of
taking the FF Sony, going m43. I had purchased a 12-40/2.8 PRO
and have been using it with my E-M1mk2 and Lumix 40-150 kit lens as a
"go everywhere kit". That 12-40 is a lovely lens!

My question is about two things:
1. The E-M1mk2 has suffered a couple of falls that has caused it to be
less than 100% reliable. It's also a bit more heavy/big than I want to
haul with me everywhere, HOWEVER, it is PERFECTLY balanced with the
12-40 lens. Should I get the latest/greatest "5" model, a new "1"
model, or just take extra pictures to cover up the occasional focus disaster?

2. Stick with the Lumix 40-150 kit lens for the occasional long
picture or get a better lens to match up with the 12-40? Do keep in
mind that the Lumix kit lens is actually really sharp, but it does
lack photon gravitas.

Anyway, I'll be in Australia again Jan 24 - Feb 7. I'd love to meet up
with any list survivors for a Zuikofest.

In other news, I've been doing a lot of drone photography this year.
Absolutely crazy fun. However, on Sunday, I had an unfortunate mishap
where I sent it into my roof at full speed where it then got
catapulted into the siding of my neighbor's house and then fell about
30 feet straight down. It was quite fascinating watching the camera
view on my controller as it must have tumbled 50+ times through the air.
I ordered some replacement parts. One blade missing, another gone, the
others spread out all over the lawn...
