Late to this thread but here goes.....
I have GAS at the moment and have just ordered a NISI Apo 77mm doublet. Build quality and reviews are good. Mate in China has one and is very impressed. Nisi seems to have a very reputation and close up lenses in general seem to be as rare as hen's teeth.
Only concern is that the lens seems to be a bit of a beast weight wise!

Hi Wayne,
I have a Leica-R 60mm Elmarit Macro lens with its matched extension tube. It works well with a 4/3 body and produces very nice images. I haven't used it much lately because I seem to do better with autofocus.

I have what is probably a stupid question. I would use a lens like the DZ 50-200/2.8 or the floater DZ 40-150 to get a respectful working distance,
and I'm satisfied with the IQ (whether I should be or not).
Why should I be investigating the use of a diopter? Tick the boxes:
* Allows use of a desired lens not otherwise serviceable in the
situation/setting
*  Improves working distance
* Allows use of a lens of better quality not otherwise useable for the
capture, especially desirable because of the speed of the lens or the
characteristics of the glass
* Allows some marriage of non-native glass to foreign camera body
*  Allows a lighter kit
* Esoteric qualities, approaches unobtanium standards
*  Other -- please specify
Inquiring minds -- are lazy. I know I could look something up, but I like
the conversation.  Thanks in advance.

I gave up on getting a diopter as all the good ones are no longer made and the remaining ones have probably been bought up by Moose and Mike :-). Hence my approach is a lens with good magnification natively. And if you do find one of the coveted diopters, expect a high price tag. Hence it is likely a matched 1.4X to the lens is the better option.

For example, in 72mm the Minolta close up lens is priced around $400

T132, good luck finding one of these.
I bought the Sigma AML72-01 (72mm) and is too much diopter (+1.74) for my case. There was a some diopter discussion on the list around 10/13-14 2020 titled
"[OM] IMG: Macro Experiment with Leica-R 60 Elmarit Macro L"
Check out Moose's excellent notes on 10/14/2020
