For a DJ's "scratching" record, maybe. I would never consider that on something 
I actually want to listen to. Plus, that process takes hours and hours. 

Commercial washers run anywhere between $2k and $4k. If you scavenge the 
bearing and platter from a dead turntable, add an inexpensive reversible 
gearhead motor from the 'bay ($20), purchase the vacuum wand assembly as a 
spare part from one of the mfg's, and assemble it all into a thrift-store 
cabinet ($15), it can be built for right around $100 and will work just as 
well.
