I'm now back at Mutz and will try to find time for experiments tomorrow and 
then report on the availability of on board vertical camera panos

This one was loosely shot (horizontal) two weeks ago (overhead using tilt 
screen) as an in-camera JPEG

OTT If you shot RAW and full manual you can shoot portrait and then stitch in 
PS without fearing to blow the highlights e.g. using the D700
