Doesn't matter. Too much trouble and cost.

Would I want an apodization filter if I knew what it was?

Curiously whatever Ian purchases seems to be immediately updated.
There
is now a 56mm f/1.2 APD lens with apodization filter as well as the
Ultra version Speedbooster.
I am unsure about the former---I wonder if the bokeh will look fake in
some circumstances if carefully examined like some injudicious use of
Gaussian blur in PS. We'll soon see I expect.

I hope he continues to post what he buys so one can wait a bit.

Too much focus on the OOF, Mike

I was hoping you or your in house counsel, Dr. Focus, would tell me if
one should want it. I am not sure I would wish to
"fix" the funky bokeh of the Helios 44-2 58mm/2 but here is a
demonstration of what happens.

So internal vignetting can lead to swirl bokeh and adding an apodization
filter can smooth it right out. Whether it looks fake or not, I have
not decided.

Is filtered bokeh, real bokeh? Mike
