Yes, Mike, and a lot of heartache it causes those who depend on road vehicles 
for their transport.  I use a diesel car and I pay the equivalent of about 
$8.20 per US gallon of diesel.  Petrol is about $7.75/US gallon.  Each mile 
costs me about 0.28USD in diesel.  But I accept these costs because the world 
is over-dependent of fossil fuels (that's the world, not merely Europe of 
course). There will come a time when I have to switch to a more sustainable way 
of getting about; it will be much less fun, but more realistic.

Even so, road traffic is not priced realistically here compared with mass 
transport like rail.  And air travel is ridiculously cheap, using untaxed fuel.
